Bird in Love???

My first video upload to blogspot ever. I hope this works...

I was working (I think) yesterday afternoon yesterday when I kept hearing light knocking on my window. I thought it was rain but when I looked outside, it looked like the rain had stopped and I couldn't figure out what was making the noise. That is, until I looked down. This silly bird just kept poking at the window... Not just once, but several times. He would fly away, come back, and repeat.

Try watching this while you're on the elliptical machine. Oh, with no sound but with closed caption. It's extremely difficult!

Aww: Irene is too nice

GD Bowling is Back!

For personal reasons which I will not go into, there were certain activities that I've avoiding for the past few months/weeks. Bowling was one of them. But to celebrate my friend V's 30th birthday a little early, we went bowling! (I claim it's one of his favorite activities. Next to eating chocolate cake.) Of course, we went to Maplewood Lanes in Saline! Rock'n Roll Bowling, baby.

Last time I went bowling before this was like 2 months ago. V was trying to perfect his "chuck'n pray" and "angry teenager" methods. NK was trying to teach us how to bowl properly by putting a controlled spin on the ball. (Unlike my uncontrolled backspin...)

So, we kind of tried picking up where we left off. Things didn't go too bad for V but it didn't go so well for me...

On the left is my awesome score of 43! That's when I tried to put a spin on the ball. But since my coach wasn't there I didn't do so well. :( So I gave up on that and went back to my normal bowling (with a backspin and all) and got a respectable score of 122, which is probably about my average... But check out V's all time high score of 168!

Anyway, GD bowling is back!

Weekend of 6/15-17

The annual Bioinformatics Picnic was held at Island Park on Friday. HG and I were determined to win the Hawaiian (or other loud) shirt contest. We went to Value World after work and went through rows and rows of clothes with distinctively nauseating scent. (Shhh but I think I may have said something like "this store smells like poor people"). We ended up going to Kmart where we had a lot of fun! Kmart had these wonderful "Extreme" shirts! Here is an example. As a matter of fact, this may be the exact shirt that I bought. Oh yeah, we were in the boys section BTW.

The best part of all this? It was 40% off. It only cost us $5.99. HOT. HG's shirt was a bit more ridiculous if you can believe it. (I can't find a picture of it.) It was blue and had a friggin' car. We almost bought some awesome sunglasses but cheaped out at the end. But those shades with snakes would have been sweet... Anyway, HG got honorable mention for her shirt (never mind that we were supposed to enter as a COUPLE), and here's a picture of V winning the men's competition.

I did a breast cancer walk in Detroit on Saturday with IM. It was actually a lot of fun. There were tons of people there and we got some freebies. :) Those of you who know me well, you know how much I LOVE free stuff!!! I can win this car.

I am also now a proud of a shirt that says: "Save the Boobs - Big or small support them all". Here's a picture from the walk. It's still not too late to donate through my fund raising page!!! (Closes July 15, 2007)

Fast forward to evening. (I did some shopping during the day but I won't get into that.) V and I went to see the 7 Fingers Circus (Les 7 Doigts de la Main) the Power Center as part of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. The show we saw was called Traces. Amazing stuff. (And I'm in love.) Picture of the Burton Tower after the show.

SNL - Kobayashi

I saw this Saturday night on SNL (rerun). I am speechless.

UPDATE: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by NBC Universal" Screw you, NBC Universal. It was hilarious.

UPDATE 2: We'll see how long this one lasts.

Good night

It wasn't me!

Some people might say that I have a tendency to steal traffic signs when I get drunk... But I certainly did not do this one! (If it was me, it would be at AS's place where I stash all my signs.)

Buuuuurds

I have a problem. I can't stop staring out the window. It's spring, and there are so many birds out there. I'm pretty sure some of them are still young. I witnessed at least two birds (or the same bird twice) slam into my window today. Each time I let out a little yelp and get sad. My friends and co-workers seem to think this is funny. They seem to think that the birds are unharmed. I've been traumatized ever since I saw a bird fly into the glass door to our building, break its neck and die last year. I was only about 10 feet away approaching the same door... Here are some examples of the types of birds that I get to see almost every day.

One on the bottom left is a squirrel. I enjoyed watching the poor thing struggling to get to the berries. The branch was a little too small for it.

I thought about putting a bird feeder out there but then I think that would be the end of me. I would get fired. I would get NO work done.

Anyway, aren't they pretty???

PS - Thanks to all my friends who donated money on my site (last blog post)! If you haven't, there's still time. :) Think about it. World without boobs would suck!

Donate/Friends for the Cure®

I normally don't do these fund raising things. But for some reason, when I was at the mall yesterday (to buy sports bras...) I picked up a pamphlet for the 16th Annual Komen Detroit Race for the Cure. Fortunately, there's no history of breast cancer in my family (that I know about anyway...) but a good friend of mine here in Michigan was diagnosed (and beat!) breast cancer recently. So I decided to become a fund raiser. If you're in the Michigan area on 6/16/2007, walk with me! If not, but you still want to support the cause, you can make donations here: http://www.active.com/donate/detroitRFTC/yuriikeda

Random, random, random, random, random...

I don't really have anything significant to post. Which I guess I never really do. But here are some pretty random things... I just want my 400th page visit. Thanks to my 2-3 faithful readers!

Still hooked on craigslist missed connection. NYC ones are funnier than Ann Arbor ones.

Spring brought lots of juvenile birds. Every day, I hear a light thump on my window. Yup, those young ones keep flying into my office window. Fortunately, they just fly in from a tree that's about 3 feet from the window so they don't sustain any injuries. That I can see anyway...

As I sit here and write this, our sys admins are hard at work installing lots of new stuff on my laptop! It will not come complete with Windows Vista, MS Office 2007, and Adobe CS3. Fabulous. This is exciting. I can't wait until I go back to 1680 x 1050 screen. This 1280 x 768 stuff is killing me. I am so spoiled.

And ZOMG, I'm pretty sure Mario Party 8 for my Wii is waiting for me at home!!!

I injured myself watching TV 2 nights ago. Who does that? I was curled up on my futon and when I got up, somehow my knee hit the wooden frame and left a sizable bruise. I rock.

I started "working out" recently (in quotes because I don't do enough to call it that yet...) and I feel fatter. Why? It's not like I'm eating more... Sucks being old.
